Copper phone line retirement timeline

14 FCC filings have their date in the next 90 days, covering 4,409 towns. Under FCC rules in effect from October 15, 2026, a request to stop copper phone service is approved automatically 31 days after the FCC's public notice unless the FCC steps in. Customers get written notice from their phone company and 15 days to comment.
