Phone systems for manufacturers
In a plant, the people a caller needs are rarely at a desk. The supervisor is on the floor, shipping is out on the dock, and the office is fielding order calls. A phone system for manufacturing has to find people, not just ring a desk.
Get a quoteWhat the phones need to do
- Reach people away from a desk: wireless handsets on the floor, and the app on supervisors' phones.
- Page the building through overhead speakers.
- Send order, customer service and shipping calls to the right group, with queues instead of voicemail.
- Keep the office number on outgoing calls, even from a cell phone.
How we set it up
We set manufacturers up on RingCentral. Office staff get desk phones, people on the floor get wireless handsets or the app, and paging can go to desk phones and to overhead speakers through a paging adapter. Calls for orders and shipping go to their own queues, and the schedule changes routing between shifts and after hours.
We set everything up remotely and ship the phones configured. Your team plugs them in, and we walk them through it on a call.
Things to plan for
- Copper lines: fire alarm panels, elevator phones and fax lines in plants are often still on copper. See our guides on fire alarms, elevator phones and fax.
- Wi-Fi coverage: wireless handsets and the app need coverage on the floor. Metal buildings and racking block signal, so check coverage before you rely on it.
- Your numbers: we port them, so customers and suppliers keep calling the same numbers.
Questions
Can we keep our overhead paging?
Often yes. A paging adapter connects existing overhead speakers to the phone system. We check what you have before quoting.
Will phones work on a loud floor?
Wireless handsets and headsets help, and people can get calls on their own phones through the app. Tell us about the space and we will suggest what fits.
