Fax over IP can be challenging, but we have the secret sauce! YES, PCM clock sync mismatch and late-arriving T.38 re-invites sent after a fax transmission have begun will cause the fax to drop. FoIP failures are often blamed on bad carrier implementations, bad service, and or bad hardware. Fax Machines on the PSTN communicate using the T30 protocol. T38 encapsulates the T30 transmission in real-time and uses data redundancy methods to ensure the complete delivery of the fax. By sending the same packets up to 5 times, most issues with jitter and packet loss on the last mile do not affect the fax completion rate.

Enough of that, how does Twisted VoIP provide reliable T.38 IP Faxing?

We are able to offer reliable Fax over IP by pairing our IP Fax platform with a Fax-Aware ATA to address the late-arriving T.38 reinvites and PCM Clock Sync problems previously mentioned.

Can I set the Outbound Caller ID

Yes, if your equipment (Fax Machine or Fax Server) does not allow you to manipulate the outbound Caller ID, there is an option that allows you to override the Outbound CID.

Can I bring my own ATA

The short answer is no. While no IP Fax service can be 100% guaranteed we have been able to provide near landline quality faxing results with our select ATA and T.38 optimized routing.

Can I use my existing Fax Machine?

Switching to Voice over IP (VoIP) doesn’t mean you have to pitch your Fax Machine! By utilizing an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) you can keep faxing the same way you always have while reducing monthly costs.
